Summary:
The first story of the seven-part Spirits series is about a runaway Princess name Ada Xieng who enslaves a famous pirate captain Lucas Yeung to a court contract. While on board his ship, she befriends twelve other crew members, who were once Lucas’s childhood friends at the old orphanage, each with a story and purpose to the story overall. The other important characters include Sophie O’Haggins, the officer who is under law to serve Ada, Julie and Mimi Xieng, Ada’s twin sisters, and Kiao Roupeez, Lucas’s older brother who is now a noble. Living in the world of Philtopia, Ada and Lucas live in a society where Spirits and Humans coexist as partners under the attraction of a Spirit Pendent. Although Spirits are not born evil, they can be used by evil human beings for power and other purposes. Once Lucas and Ada find out about the attempt of a single Human in consuming hundreds of Spirits’ power to take over Mizunam, they will work together along with Sophie to find and defeat the person. Aside from the story about freeing and returning the Spirits back to their world, the main focus of the first book is about the relationship between Lucas and Ada, Lucas and his crew members, and Ada and her sisters. The political game and the question of whether to break or obey the rules of society are the highlights of this story. The story ends in a cliffhanger and continues with Spirits II.
